The Jazz Crusade Audio Sampler Catalog

Having trouble with the audio samples? Hopefully we'll be able to help you hear them.

Did your computer say it doesn't know what to do with the sample? Is it telling you that you need a "plug-in"?

Usually the player needed to hear these samples is already on your computer, but occasionally they aren't. If you received a message of any sort that seemed to indicate you did not have the necessary player, you will need to download it from the manufacturer at www.real.com. The basic player is free, although the manufacturer offers several pay versions on their site. You do not need the "Plus" version to hear our samples. Search their main page for their free downloads section and you will see their basic player listed. Click on their link and follow their instructions and then attempt to play our samples again.

Does your computer start to download a file instead of playing the sample?

This is normal. There are two ways (at least) that audio can be sent from our computer to yours. The first is to simply download the file to your computer either as a temporary file or as a named file and then play it from your computer using the Real Player. The second method is called "streaming" and it allows your computer to play the music even though it is stored on our computer, again using Real Player. We use the first method and do not support the second method at this time. This allows you to save our samples on your computer with ease and normally you will not need to wait for a sample to download on subsequent listens. This is perfectly safe. There is no chance of getting a "virus" on your computer by downloading these files. Once the file is finished downloading, it should begin playing automatically. If it does not, you may not have the Real Player installed. (See above.) If you were prompted to select a location to store the sample file, you may need to navigate to that location using Windows Explorer and then double-click the file to begin playing the sample.

Is the sample taking forever to download?

The speed at which our samples travel from our computer to yours is solely dependent on the speed of your Internet connection. Usually the samples will take from 1-4 minutes each using a dial-up modem. The time will be much shorter with faster forms of connection.

Does the sample quality sound very low?

These samples are not indicative of the quality of our CDs. The samples have been reduced in quality drastically to allow faster transfer from our computer to yours. They are intended to give you a "feel" for the type of music on each of the CDs, not as an indicator of the CD audio quality. Please do not judge the sound quality based on these samples!

Does the sample play at a very low volume? Or a very high volume?

Normally there will be a volume control on your computer sound. It is often found in the lower right corner of your screen and looks like a speaker, assuming you are using Windows. Turning up the volume there will raise the volume of the sample. There is also a volume control on the Real Player and your computer speakers themselves often have a volume control of their own. Adjust these as needed to suit your volume taste.

Still having trouble?

Despite our best efforts, there may be times when your computer is not set up to hear out samples. In the event that this happens, there may be nothing we can do to get them to work. But, if you're desperate to hear the samples and you think we may be able to help, send us an e-mail and fully describe your problem. (Telling us "it doesn't play" won't help us figure it out!) With a little bit of luck, we may be able to send you in the right direction to get it working.

Enjoy the samples!
